Our Philosophy

Yoga is many many things; great for strength training, liberating joints, loosening limbs, improving balance and flexibility, combating the rapid effects of aging, preparing for child birth, learning a new skill, communion of mind body and spirit, strengthening are ability to be in the present moment, prepares us for meditation, gives us tools to manage our emotions, an understanding of the power of breath work and the list goes on.

At the heart of flourish yoga’s philosophy is the belief that yoga should be made accessible for everyone. In todays western world, we often neglect self care and compassion, yet its a time when its most necessary. There is a way to live this life in flow, balance and harmony. Yoga allows us time to connect with the present moment taking us away from the business of life. Often we feel overwhelmed, disconnected, and perhaps more troublingly alone in a world where were surrounded by people. At Flourish Yoga we train the mind through ancient yogic practices to focus on the present moment with progressively challenging exercises, derived from Asana’s (Yogic postures.) We connect to our breath, our life force energy through synchronizing breath to movement as well as with specific breathwork practices these are believed to, cleanse the body, stimulate energetic systems in the body and calm the mind in readiness for meditation.

Traditionally meditation was the goal of a physical yoga practice, at Flourish Yoga we hold this philosophy however with the realistic view of the modern world and so all of our classes will include an element of meditation and breathwork with longer meditation practices offered for those who would like to explore this path.

Many of the exercises and practices we teach can be practiced at home and in short increments throughout the day to build on your skills they are not restricted to in class teaching and so often students will be encourage to explore their practice at home and given guidance and feedback on this.
